Christie blasts Trump's decision to 'choose golf' instead of handing over classified documents

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie attacked former President Donald Trump's alleged mishandling of classified documents — the subject of Trump's latest indictment.

The Christie-aligned Tell It Like It Is PAC released an attack ad against the former president, solidifying Christie's position as one of the Republicans in the field most hostile toward Trump. The clip featured a voice-over presenting Trump with the choice between complying with a grand jury's subpoena or playing golf, which was interspersed with Trump playing golf and discussing the case.

"Donald Trump had a choice: comply with the federal grand jury's subpoena ... or play golf," the narrator said. "He chose golf."

The ad featured several clips of Christie mocking Trump over his handling of the case.

"Maybe he could have skipped a couple of rounds of golf and gone through the boxes to respond to a subpoena from a grand jury," the former governor was shown saying.

"I mean, does anybody in America believe this?" he continued. "The problem for Donald Trump in all of this is his own conduct. He's his own worst enemy."

The ad ended with a clip of Trump playing golf superimposed with the text, "He chose golf."

Christie has pitched himself since his campaign launch earlier this month as the only one who can take on Trump and has followed his pledge with relentless attacks.

However, the former governor has some distance to make up. A recent Emerson College poll had him at just 2%, compared to Trump's 59%.
